A pretty thick marine layer has kept temperatures mostly in the 70s on the Westside, but if you're heading to Vegas it's already 110 (of course it's that dry heat, so it only feels like 102). The California Independent System Operator, which controls most of the state power grid, has asked customers to conserve or postpone energy until this evening. Conditions were expected to be "challenging" from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. You would think that power needs might not be as great today because so many folks are taking today and tomorrow off, although offices are still open (and the AC is still cranking). A general cooldown is expected by the weekend.
