Lots of chatter in the media world today about an upcoming super-duper investigative story in the NYT about Rupert Murdoch. The NY Observer only says it will be published soon, while the Drudge Report (heavens, this is a first for LABO) says it's being rushed into print for this Sunday's edition. The investigation is being led by managing editor Jill Abramson and according to Drudge, "IS BEING DESCRIBED AS AN 'AGGRESSIVE' EXAMINATION ON MURDOCH, HIS ASIAN WIFE, AND ATTEMPTS TO EXPAND HIS MEDIA EMPIRE..." Maybe they'll come up with something new and juicy and maybe it will somehow influence the Dow Jones/Bancroft family thing, but as a rule investigative projects that get hyped at the front end are often underwhelming. They're a little like blockbuster movies - just too many expectations. Good for them, however, if they manage to snare some interesting stuff on a subject that's been covered so relentlessly over the years.
