Most cities would kill for an NBA Weekend, but Vegas is not most cities. MGM Mirage CEO Terry Lanni told analysts today that he's not interested in the All-Star game returning to Sin City, noting that a bunch of nastiness over the weekend scared visitors. Lanni attributed the trouble to an influx of undesirables from L.A. and elsewhere. Much of the wrongdoing involved nickel and dime stuff - trespass, battery, outstanding warrants, loitering, burglary and disorderly conduct - but there also were several shootings, including one in the MGM parking garage. "We know a number of our Asian customers who were here for the Chinese New Year didn't come out,'' Lanni told Bloomberg News. "They stayed in their villas, and the people we did have play didn't play as much as they would have.'' MGM's first-quarter profit was below analysts estimates.
