I'm a little late on this one, but data gatherer TNS is out with its annual survey of millionaires - net worth, excluding primary residence - and L.A. County is tops, with 268,136 millionaire households. That's out of 3.3 million households in the county. The number of U.S. millionaire households has risen to a record high of 9.3 million in 2006, a 5 percent bump from the previous year. Here's the top 10:
1. Los Angeles County, 268,136
2. Cook County, IL (Chicago), 171,118
3. Orange County, CA, 116,157
4. Maricopa County, AZ (Phoenix), 113,414
5. San Diego County, 102,138
6. Harris County, TX (Houston), 99,504
7. Nassau County, NY, 79,704
8. Santa Clara County, 74,824
9. Palm Beach County, FL, 71,221
10. King County, WA (Seattle), 68390
So what about NYC? It's made up of so many counties that no single one has enough millionaires to make the top 10. NY County, which covers Manhattan, has about 61,000 millionaire households.
