Disney starts videogame studio

Why should Disney just license its characters to videogame developers when it could make the games itself and not have to share the profits? That seems to be the idea behind its plans for a videogame studio that will make titles for Nintendo Co. This can't be great news for the big videogame publishers - especially Agoura Hills-based THQ, which has the game rights to the next four films by Pixar. Disney, of course, now owns Pixar. (Both THQ and Activision shares are down today.) The new Disney studio will be called Fall Line and operate out of Salt Lake City (interesting choice - wonder why it won't be in Socal, where much of the videogame action is coming from). Disney has bought or started four game development companies in the past 19 months.
