Univision sale approved

Not that there was any doubt, but Univision shareholders signed off on the company's sale to a group of private equity firms and L.A. billionaire Haim Saban. Sale is expected to close next spring. Which, of course, begs the question: What will billionaire Chairman Jerry Perenchio do now? Who knows? And as all you Perenchio watchers know by now, we're not about the find out. Rule #1 is to stay clear of the media - no interviews, no panels, no speeches, no comments. When the president of the network gave an interview to Broadcasting and Cable magazine, Perenchio fined him $25,000.

In 1981, Perenchio told an LAT reporter: "I really don't want my name in the goddamn paper. I really don't mean to be rude. I just don't want to give out interviews. I just hate them. Inevitably, I ended up hurting some people or leaving some names out, or getting quoted out of context." He also won't pose for photographs, and Univision won't release any. The only recent photo available is on the website of his third and current wife, Margaret, an artist, at http://www.margaretperenchioart.com.

Needless to say, there were no statements in today's announcement of the shareholder vote.
