*Swimsuit saga

Kind of a juicy court case between Maxine Swim Group Inc., which makes branded and private-label swimsuits, and former CEO Vincent Rojas. As reported by California Apparel News, Maxine alleges that Rojas paid himself at least $700,000 in unearned bonuses and other money and that he supposedly comingled his own bank account with the swimwear company's account (he already was collecting an annual salary of $275,000). There's also some question about a licensing deal he worked out with Liz Claiborne - specifically a clause that would put the license in default if Rojas left. The company is seeking close to $1 million in damages. Since the lawsuit was filed, the Maxine Swim Group has been operating under the name Manhattan Beachwear.

*Update: On Oct. 3, 2006, Maxine Swim Group, now operating as Manhattan Beachwear, settled its case against Rojas, according to the Apparel News. Rojas' attorney, Kevin Brogan, said terms were confidential. "Specifically, both parties confirmed that the evidence revealed during discovery did not support the allegations made in the case," he said.
