Morning headlines

L’Orangerie closes: Corie Brown in the Times gets word on the sale of L.A.’s most storied French eatery to Nobu Matsuhisa, who pretty much pioneered high-end Japanese dining. L’Orangerie will remain open until Dec. 31, and after that it will be turned into a new Nobu.

The new 310: This is the day that folks in the 310 area will need to dial 1 plus 310 and then the number. Many businesses have been spending the past few weeks adjusting computers and alarms to accommodate the new system.

Runaway worries: L.A. location shoots for film, TV and commercials fell almost 7 percent in the second quarter. Perhaps more worrisome than the overall decline was a 3.3 percent drop in television shoots. It’s TV that has offset much of the drop-off in movie shoots -- another sign that other states are taking business away from L.A.

Downtown revival?: Times columnist Steve Lopez takes some well-warranted shots at the two massive projects being planned for downtown – the Grand Avenue redevelopment and the L.A. Live colossus next to Staples Center.

Mattel purchase: The El Segundo toymaker this morning announced plans to purchase Radica Games Ltd. for $230 million in cash. It’s Mattel’s first acquisition in several years. The Los Angeles Times had the story ahead of the other major dailies.

Port deal: Long Beach Harbor Commissioners have approved a budget that boosts spending at the facility by 15 percent, or $63 million, over last year.
