City Councilman-elect David Ryu is staying within City Hall circles for his chief of staff. He announced on Friday the appointment of Sarah Dusseault, a policy adviser to Mayor Eric Garcetti and most recently the campaign manager for Bobby Shriver's losing run for the county Board of Supervisors. Dusseault first came to City Hall, I believe, as a policy adviser to Mayor James Hahn and became the deputy mayor for housing and homelessness. She advised Garcetti when he was a City Council member from the 13th district and when he ran for mayor.
Ryu was elected last month to succeed Tom La Bonge in the 4th district, notably as the first Korean American to be elected to a council seat. "I am excited to welcome Sarah to my team," Ryu said in a statement. "Sarah has an innovative spirit and the City Hall experience necessary to help me chart an effective new course for the neighborhoods of CD4. She is a dedicated public servant and policy expert, who has a proven track record of delivering results for the people of Los Angeles."
"I am excited to get to work on legislation and initiatives that put the neighborhoods first at City Hall," Dusseault said. "I look forward to joining the team and working on behalf of the community.'' The graduate of Yale and UCLA Law School has been closely associated with the issues of affordable housing and the homeless mentally ill. She wrote a 2014 op-ed in the Los Angeles Times about her brother who was homeless.
New Facebook profile pic for the occasion.
On the connections side of the bio, her husband Chris Dusseault is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and chairman of the board of LA's Best, the politically favorited after school program. He also led the legal challenge to Proposition 8, the anti-gay rights measure struck down a few years ago.
