Charter to add Dodgers channel before TWC takeover

Charter Communications today announced a $56.7 billion takeover of Time Warner Cable, but even before that deal goes through, Charter's CEO says the service will add the Dodgers' SportsNet LA channel to its current lineup. That means that customers in Long Beach, Glendale, Malibu and other cities where Charter is the local monopoly will be able to join Time Warner customers in watching Dodgers games for the first time in two seasons. Charter has been one of the cable companies refusing to meet the terms set by the Dodgers and Time Warner for the new channel. While Time Warner is the cable monopoly in much of the city of Los Angeles, and customers there can see Dodgers Games, DirecTV, Dish Network and AT&T U-Verse are among the services that do not offer the Dodgers channel.

From the LA Times story posted within the past hour:

"We are going to get the Dodgers on," Charter Communications Chief Executive Tom Rutledge said Tuesday morning in an interview with the L.A. Times.

"We want the Dodgers on every outlet and we are committed to making that happen," Rutledge said….

Charter customers in Glendale, Burbank, Malibu, Long Beach and other regions will have SportsNet LA within a few weeks, Rutledge said. He added that his company will have to take a hard look at the channel's finances.
