Pilar Marrero, the longtime politics writer and columnist for Spanish-language La Opinión, is leaving the paper to become the communications deputy for new county Supervisor Hilda Solis. Marrero has been with La Opinión since 1990. Former Mark Ridley-Thomas aide (and LA Times reporter) Peter Hong is the chief deputy for Solis. Further staff appointments are still pending.
