Off-duty LAPD officer Erick Alcaraz was killed Saturday in the crash of his motorcycle in Torrance. Alcaraz, 24, was riding south on Western Avenue at West 234th Street when his bike collided with a car turning left onto Western. Alcaraz was an 18-month veteran of the department who had completed his probationary year in the Southwest division and was due to begin his new assignment in West LA on Sunday. He is the sixth LAPD officer to die in a traffic collision this year.
