The giant wooden roller coaster Colossus opened 36 years ago at what was then just Magic Mountain in Valencia. It was billed as the world's fastest and tallest wood coaster. Today Six Flags Magic Mountain announced it would shut down "the king of wooden coasters" on August 16. No details on why or what will replace it. Colossus is currently running backwards at the park and will continue until June 15, then resume normal operations for the final two months, says KHTS.
