In case you hadn't heard, Los Angeles and New York are meeting in the Stanley Cup final — starting Wednesday at Staples Center. Because the nation's two media and entertainment centers are involved, expect to see a lot of references to hockey, the LA-New York rivalry and other related culture content. Plus today is media day at the arena, when the players and coaches from both teams are made available to every TV crew and blogger.

The Wall Street Journal's entry today is an OK East Coast humorous view of Los Angeles by Jason Gay. Sample:

Here are some important facts to know about New York's Stanley Cup opponent:

Built on a haunted former go-kart track, Los Angeles was founded in March 2007 by Nicole Richie and Adrian Grenier, the guy from "Entourage."

Its mayor is Rihanna, who succeeded Bob Newhart, and before that, the rat from "Ratatouille."

Before there was a mayor, Gene Hackman just walked around with a bullhorn and told everybody what to do....

True fact: entire city of Los Angeles is closed on Thursdays so everyone can catch up on "Game of Thrones."

Finally, Los Angeles is three hours behind New York City, so please, everybody, for the sake of L.A.: no Stanley Cup spoilers.
