A source who has been right before emails that Register owner Aaron Kushner will speak to the newsroom at a staff gathering on Thursday afternoon. The reported topic? Expansion into Los Angeles with some form of an LA Register. "I kid you not," says the source. "It will be done with 'existing staffing and existing resources.'" We'll be listening Thursday to see if this happens. Remember, the Register expanded into Long Beach earlier this year and just last month acquired the Riverside Press-Enterprise and installed a new publisher and editor. There also have been some media stories suggesting that Kushner's Register experiment is losing millions. All the more reason to tune in Thursday, I guess.
