Tom Clancy, an insurance salesman when he sold his first novel, "The Hunt for Red October," went on to have 17 books reach #1 on the New York Times bestseller lists. Among those made into films were his first novel plus “Patriot Games” and “Clear and Present Danger.” Clancy died Tuesday at age 66 in Baltimore. NYT
The National Transportation Safety Board suspended its investigation into the weekend jet crash at Santa Monica Airport due to the federal government shutdown. The bodies of two females and several pets were found in the wreckage, in addition to the two men previously identified.
Gov. Brown signed a law inspired by so-called revenge porn that makes it illegal to distribute private images with the intent to harass or annoy someone — such as an ex-girlfriend or boyfriend who trusted you not to share nude pictures. LAT, Bee, AP
