Mayor Garcetti's Monday: He attends the 9 a.m. groundbreaking for a new fire station in Panorama City and at 10:30 launches "the first L.A. 'Neighborhood Blitz' repair day, kicking off an operation that will dispatch a city pothole repair truck to every neighborhood in the city twice over the next year." That's at 10:30 at the corner of Woodman Avenue & La Maida Street in Sherman Oaks.

Cindy Montañez campaign consultant Parke Skelton said he was "bewildered" by how his team, which expected to beat Nury Martinez by at least 8 points, lost. "In retrospect," he said, "We could have done polling. It might have shown us the danger we were in." DN

Eight people were arrested following what police called a major disturbance that injured several officers after the U.S. Open of Surfing event in Huntington Beach. ABC 7, LAT, AP

U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte "strongly implied" on ABC 7's "Newsmakers" there would be criminal indictments coming in the county jail brutality scandal, while on NBC 4 "News Conference" the ACLU's Mark Rosenbaum called for Sheriff Lee Baca's removal. Also: a possible challenger to Baca's reelection. Witness LA

Relativity Media's Ryan Kavanaugh is under investigation by the sheriff's department for allegedly hindering the Christopher Dorner manhunt by landing his helicopter at a sheriff's facility. He says this is payback for his support of Baca challenger Paul Tanaka. LAT

Steve Lopez goes out with a Neighborhood Watch group formed after a rash of burglaries in Cheviot Hills. LAT

Asiana Airlines pilots have an unusually high rate of aborted landings at San Francisco International Airport — six to eight times more "go-arounds" than would be expected given the airline’s number of flights. This comes amid concern about the training of some foreign pilots. SF Chronicle, LAT

The Twelfth Church of Christ, Scientist congregation in Van Nuys that dates to 1914, has sold its 1932 Meyer and Holler-designed church for $2.2 million to the Canoga Park Spanish Seventh-day Adventist congregation, which did not have a home. The final services were Sunday. DN
