Manny Ramirez is back in the minor leagues trying to get one more shot at a job in the big leagues — and he's now bald. His new employer, the Texas Rangers, made it a condition that Manny get rid of his signature dreadlocks. So he got rid of everything. He's playing for the Round Rock Express, the Rangers' top farm team in the Pacific Coast League. If he proves that he can still hit, it sounds as if the 41-year-old Ramirez could be called up to the Rangers to help with their pennant run. Hopefully for the Texas pitchers, he would only play at designated hitter and would not stand in the outfield like he did with the Dodgers and, after he burned his bridge here, the Chicago White Sox. Manny last played in the American League for Tampa Bay for a week or so at the start of the 2011 season, then retired to avoid a big drug suspension. He began this season playing in Taiwan, after flopping last season in Oakland's minor league system. Manny has 555 homeruns on his lifetime record, 14th on the all-time list and second to Alex Rodriguez among active players, if either actually plays in the AL again. The Angels' Albert Pujols is next among active players.
In this video of his first home run for Round Rock, on Tuesday night, Manny takes off his hat at the end.
