Tonight's addition to the legend of Yasiel Puig: a grand slam home run on the first pitch he saw in the 8th inning. The Dodgers beat the Braves 5-0 behind starting pitcher Zack Greinke.
OK: In 4 games with the Dodgers, the 22-year-old Puig has 7 hits in 16 at-bats. His hits include 3 home runs, and he has amassed 9 runs batted in and 17 total bases. Puig's 3 home runs rank fifth on the team — ahead of former all-stars Matt Kemp and Hanley Ramirez — and of course all of his rate stats (batting average, on-base average and slugging percentage) lead the team. Even before Puig came up to LA, there were baseball columnists suggesting the Dodgers make him the full-tiime right fielder and try to get something in trade for the fading Andre Ethier. After tonight, Puig may start putting butts in the seats and dollars in the till at Dodger Stadium. He won't be going back to the minor leagues any time soon, I suspect.
