Developer Wayne Ratkovich bought downtown's dated Macy's Plaza for $241 million and announced plans for a $160-million transformation. LAT

The LAPD is conducting a loud anti-terrorism drill on Figueroa Street between 5th and 4th Street at 10 a.m., for attendees at a homeland security conference. There will be related street closures in the area between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Supporters of Exposition Park museums were successful Wednesday in stopping a plan that they said would cripple the institutions by giving USC control of public parking as part of the school's pending takeover of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. LAT

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will spend a few hours hobnobbing Thursday with political and business leaders at for Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's "Experts and Enthusiasts" retreat in Park City, Utah, then return to Southern California to greet Chinese President Xi Jinping. CNS
