Fifth victim of Santa Monica rampage dies

Marcela Franco, who was 26, died Sunday after her family decided to remove her from life support at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. She was leaving Santa Monica College on Friday with her father, Carlos Navarro Franco, when they were both shot by John Zawahri as he ran onto the campus. The elder Franco died at the scene. He was a 68-year-old groundskeeper at the college. A vigil for the victims is scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m. outside the college library.

Police on Sunday released a new photo of Zawahri. LA Observed on Saturday posted his photo from the Santa Monica High School yearbook for 2006, when Zawahri was a junior. He did not graduate with his class the following year. ABC 7 said he also had been a student at Olympic High School in Santa Monica.

Zawahri was thought to be disturbed by his parents' divorce several years ago. He lived in Mar Vista with his mother, who is reportedly visiting her former home in Lebanon.
