White House spokesman Jay Carney said today that President Obama doesn't plan to weigh in on the Los Angeles mayoral race. Both Eric Garcetti and Wendy Greuel are Democrats and Obama supporters, with friends and campaign contributors who were even bigger Obama supporters. There was no gain for the president in Obama choosing a side, and today's remarks by Carney make it basically official. The news is possibly a disappointment to Garcetti, who has stressed his ties to Obama. Greuel last week unveiled the endorsement of former president Bill Clinton.
