Executive editor Lisa Fung is out at The Wrap, just a few weeks after Joseph Kapsch came over from the Hollywood Reporter with a charge to oversee the web site's staff reporters. Fung is the second former Los Angeles Times hand to leave The Wrap in the past month. Senior editor Jon Thurber, hired just last summer after more than three decades at the Times, left earlier. News of Fung's departure was dropped in tersely near the end of a post by The Wrap head honcho Sharon Waxman announcing the re-hire of Jeff Sneider, formerly of Variety, as a film reporter.
Jeff will be taking over the Deal Central column that he anchored before heading to Variety, where he became one of the trade’s most tireless and passionate reporters on the film business.
“I once acknowledged that 'second chances are rare in this business,' and I'm grateful to TheWrap for believing in me and offering me this exciting opportunity,” Sneider said. “I've been impressed with how TheWrap has grown since I've been away and I look forward to returning to this top-notch team of entertainment journalists.”[skip]
Additionally, we wanted to let you know that executive editor Lisa Fung will be departing. We wish her well, and appreciate the professionalism and experience she brought to our team.
When Fung joined The Wrap in January 2012, just over a year ago, the story then was that Waxman created a new position — executive editor — for her. "She is the ideal candidate to lead our newsroom and grow the site as we embark on our fourth year," Waxman said then. No, I don't why she's leaving or whose move it is — Fung's or Waxman's — but the verbiage is certainly terse.
* Noted: Kapsch had moved from THR to Celebuzz (and then on from there) before joining The Wrap as deputy managing editor.
