Channel 7's long-time political reporter, John North, is retiring at the end of this week. The newsroom in Glendale got a memo announcing North's departure from news director Cheryl Fair. North has been with Channel 7 since 1979, and also had been a network correspondent for ABC News based in Los Angeles and a correspondent for TVN, covering the White House and Senate in Washington. ABC 7 says that North covered his first national convention in 1972 and every presidential race since then, as well as numerous races for mayor. His last stories have been profiles of the current candidates for mayor, including a piece posted Monday on Wendy Greuel.
