Judge Hahn sounds pretty happy not to be running

Thumbnail image for judge-jim-hahn.jpgWith the current candidates for mayor all giving off the vibe that they aren't really having much fun, KCRW's Saul Gonzalez dropped in on Superior Court Judge James Hahn — you know, the mayor of Los Angeles from 2001 to 2005. He's the one who picked Bill Bratton to lead the LAPD and fought off secession of the San Fernando Valley. Hahn is handling small claims cases in the Santa Monica courthouse, living nearby with his wife and enjoying not being in the spotlight any more. "It's a pretty great thing to be mayor of Los Angeles," Hahn tells Gonzalez. But, he adds, "I have to say this is the happiest time of my life."

When last we checked in 2010, Hahn was handling children's court cases in Monterey Park.
