Evett's Model Shop to mark 65 years on Saturday

Evetts-model-shop-ad.jpgOn a trendifying block of Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica, between Bob's Market and Thyme Cafe, is a relic of another time. Evett's Model Shop has been there for 65 years. Owner Colby Evett goes to work every day, and is kind of famous in the world of models and radio-controlled airplanes, according to a notice that went out to the Friends of Sunset Park.

On Saturday, January 5th, Evett's Model Shop at 1636 Ocean Park Blvd. will celebrate its 65th anniversary. Stop by between 12 noon to 5 PM to say hello, share a memory, sign the guest book, and chat with Colby Evett, 93 years old, and his wife Yvonne, who live in the Sunset Park neighborhood. Colby still goes to the store every day and continues to serve our community in a very old fashioned way. Countless 8th graders from JAMS have turned to Colby for help with their Mousetrap Car projects and families continue to stop by for the perfect gift for their kids. Model shops simply do not exist anymore, anywhere....but here in Sunset Park.
