Rep. Janice Hahn has been profligate with the press releases recently — but this one is actually worth repeating. Hahn felt it was necessary to explain why she won't take part in her usual New Year's Day practice of taking a dip in the Pacific at Cabrillo Beach. Blame the fiscal cliff negotiations in Washington.

Congresswoman Hahn Statement on Missing the Local Polar Bear Swim

Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn released the following statement about missing the polar bear swim:

“In 11 years, I have not missed a Polar Bear swim on New Year’s Day. But this year, I will be in Washington, working as hard as I can to avert the fiscal cliff that is threatening so many of the hard working Americans I am so proud to represent. I think a bracing plunge in the ocean is shock enough! The people in my communities shouldn't get shoved over the fiscal cliff too. I'm sorry not to be there, angry that Congress has waited so long to address this issue, but this is the work we were entrusted to do. I just hope we can come together to do it.”

Included in the release is a Daily Breeze photo of Hahn in bathing suit splashing into the chilly water.
