Orange County journalist David Haldane writes in this month's Orange Coast magazine about the journey into the mental health system with his son Drew. "The call I feared finally came late on a Friday. I was at the edge of sleep in my Los Alamitos condo when a ringing phone jolted me back into consciousness. I got my bearings, and sat up straight. Oh God, I thought, It’s finally happened," he writes. "The voice on the other end offered little comfort. 'I’m a nurse at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital,' she said. 'Don’t panic, but we have your son.'" Haldane also talks about his son on this weekend's Off-Ramp on KPCC.
