When First Lady Michelle Obama ended her fundraising swing through Los Angeles today, the presence of Rep. Howard Berman by her side was noteworthy when viewed through the lens of Democratic politics. Berman was invited to attend the luncheon, at the Ladera Heights home of John and Melanie Clark, and his rival in the San Fernando Valley congressional race, Rep. Brad Sherman, was not. The White House hasn't officially taken a side in the contest between the two Democrats. But this was not the first time the Obamans have included Berman. He was invited into the presidential motorcade when President Obama swooped into the Valley to collect checks at the Studio City home of George Clooney back in May.
