Extra time. The U.S. and Canada's women, bitter soccer rivals, are tied at 3-3. In the 123rd minute, just seconds before the game goes to penalty kicks, Alex Morgan scores off a header. The jubilant Americans go into the final on Thursday against Japan, a rematch of last year's World Cup final, which Japan's women won. The devastated Canadians pick themselves up off the field, shake hands, and prepare to meet France in the bronze medal game.

Morgan, from Diamond Bar and UC Berkeley, has been a standout throughout the games. Megan Rapinoe scored twice for the Americans, Abby Wambach had the other goal. Christine Sinclair scored all three goals for the Canada, including a beautiful series of moves for the game's first goal.

Out of beach volleyball: The last U.S. men still in the tournament, Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal, lost to a team from Latvia.
