Caltrans relaunches freeway status map and app

caltrans-quickmap.jpg
Finding out what's happening on the freeway before you hit the road may have just gotten a bit easier — or at least more accurate. Caltrans has relaunched its QuickMap that lets you open a window and see what the observation cameras are seeing on any freeway in California. You can also call up any changeable message to see what's being beamed to passing drivers — right now it's all about the upcoming Carmageddon II closure on the 405, on all the signs in the Los Angeles area. You can grab the smartphone app from the page as well.

The live 511 traffic map is here.
