100-year-old driver injures 11 at South LA school *

Preston Carter has a drivers license and a birthday next week — his 101st, says CBS LA. His car backed into a crowd near Main Street Elementary School this afternoon, injuring nine children and two adults, officials say. Carter blamed the incident on failed brakes.

The LA Times says that Carter's DMV record is clean and that his license was good until 2013. He is required to wear corrective lenses.
