17 arrested in Art Walk clash with police *

Last night's downtown Art Walk included an Occupy LA protest and a skirmish line with police on Spring Street. As the LAPD tried to push the crowd north from the block between 4th and 5th streets, objects were thrown and at least one person in the crowd was shot with a non-lethal weapon, the LA Times reports. Arrests were made for vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, failure to disperse, resisting arrest, blocking traffic and attempted assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer. Four officer were treated for minor injuries.

An Occupy LA member said the protest was over recent arrests for chalking on sidewalks.

The Times originally reported the number of arrests as 19, based on the LAPD. The number has been revised to 17.
