Orange Line extension across the Valley opens June 30

Another four miles of the Orange Line busway are about to ready to open between Woodland Hills and Chatsworth. The official opening is set for June 30, but out-of-service buses will be seen making test runs as soon as this weekend. Those check-out runs may be a good thing for drivers — remember how many accidents occurred between cars and the new buses when the Orange Line opened in 2005?

From the Daily News: "Metro has taken several precautions to prevent a repeat of that, including installing more red lights and signs, putting red-light cameras at intersections, and even sending 'ambassadors' to local schools to teach students how to travel safely around the busway."

The LAPD and LA County sheriff's began writing tickets near the busway extension back in May to improve safety.
