Another ex-LA Times editor joins The Wrap

JonThurberHeadshot.jpgJon Thurber, who left the Los Angeles Times recently after 40 years or so in the newsroom, is joining The Wrap as a senior editor. He will be reunited there with Lisa Fung, the executive editor. They were colleagues in the Calendar section at the Times for some years.

Thurber had been the books editor for a bit more than a year when he left the Times in May. Before that he had been a managing editor, the obituaries editor, an editor in Calendar and a news editor on the Foreign desk. He came up originally through the clerk ranks.

"In his new position, Jon will guide long-term coverage, oversee our award-winning original reporting, expand into new areas and increase traffic and user engagement," said Sharon Waxman, the site's founder. "We feel extremely fortunate: Jon brings a career’s worth of knowledge, editing experience and news judgment to the newsroom."

By the way, the newly crafted position of Books and Culture Editor at the Times has yet to be filled.
