City Council members say they are upset that they approved LAFD cuts based on inaccurate response time data from the department. LAT

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and fire chief Brian Cummings will hold a media availability to talk about response times at 11 a.m. at Fire Station 3, 108 N. Fremont Ave.

Villaraigosa declined to back any of the three income tax initiatives for the November ballot, "saying that efforts to raise taxes on top earners lead to too much volatility in state revenue and compound California's budget problems." PolitiCal

Downtown lawyers and machers with business at City Hall through the years such as Arnie Bergoff, John Ek, Jerry Neuman and Ken Spiker are co-hosting a "birthday party" fundraiser for Rep. Janice Hahn on Wednesday at Perch.

Media media people

NBC 4 ran a news crawl through the first hour of last week's "Saturday Night Live," even though there was no breaking news to announce. "We are trying to determine the root
cause...but please accept our apologies," a news manager emailed a viewer who complained. "We are working to make sure it doesn't happen again."

Another NBC viewer complains that a $144,000 condo highlighted on Monday's "Today" show as a great buy in "Downtown Los Angeles" is actually out in the MacArthur Park area.

Things come around: sports public relations executives Steve Brener and Toby Zwikel, who each left the Dodgers staff at the end of the O'Malley family ownership in 1988, are back handling some contract PR work for the team this spring. Their firm is BZA.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced that Lourdes Garcia-Navarro, the NPR foreign correspondent, will receive the Edward R. Murrow Award, which recognizes individuals for their outstanding contribution to public radio.

The L.A. Theatre Works’ weekly radio theater series is moving to KPFK and into a regular Sunday 8 p.m. time slot. Up first on March 25: "Dinah Was."
