Letters of Note says it exists to give voice to "correspondence deserving of a wider audience." One piece a day, from the past. Monday's entry was a letter from an emancipated slave, Jourdan Anderson, rejecting his former master's offer to return to the farm in Tennessee in August 1865, after the Civil War. The rejection of the employment offer was courteous, but must have sliced the former rebel down to nothing.
