Sergeant to the stars hangs up his poker face

lohan-wheatcroft.jpgFor two decades, sheriff's deputy Steve Wheatcroft has walked Los Angeles County's most starry celebrity defendants past the lines of paparazzi and into their date with the judge. Lindsay Lohan, Mel Gibson, Phil Spector, even Conrad Murray — he has walked them all. Wheatcroft, who heads the sheriff's Security Operations Unit—they protect the Board of Supervisors, judges and others who receive threats—received a retirement tribute at Tuesday's Supes meeting.
