Sandy Koufax is still number one to Angelenos

greenberg-koufax.JPGThe Los Angeles Times website has been trying to pump up traffic with one of the oldest tricks of the trade: asking readers to vote on some question then come back day after day to see the results. In this case, the Times' Fabulous Forum sports blog has been counting down the 20 greatest sports figures in L.A. history. Today, the site crowned Sandy Koufax, the Dodgers' lefthanded pitcher forced by injury to retire at his peak after the 1966 season, as number one. The voting wasn't close. Numbers two through five were Magic Johnson, Vin Scully, John Wooden and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, in that order.
