LACMA's gala tries to copy NY, says WSJ

lacma-resnick-pav.jpgThe big fashion and celebrity fundraiser on Saturday at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio and Eva Chow, is billed in today's Wall Street Journal as essentially a borrowed idea from the Costume Institute Gala that regularly packs in a well-dressed crowd at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. LACMA director Michael Govan hopes the Art + Film Gala here will "raise the stature" of the museum, the paper says. The L.A. event won't have the fashion sizzle of the NYC evenings, which are hosted by Vogue, but the WSJ says "LACMA's event could deepen its support from Hollywood."

Also in the WSJ: Manny Pacquiao trains in Hollywood and talks about how he "balances life as a politician, musician, movie star and athlete."
