There's not much new to know since we filled you in last week. Air Force One is due to land at LAX after 4:30 p.m. Here's hoping President Obama then choppers above the afternoon traffic to somewhere in the Hancock Park vicinity — Wilshire Country Club anyone? Howard Hughes once landed his plane on the fairway, if I'm remembering the lore correctly.
Alas, the appearance of no parking signs along Barrington Avenue suggests it's more likely the president will once again helicopter only as far as Brentwood. Then sometime after 5 p.m. — just as things are getting really messy out there — the LAPD and/or CHP will close down Wilshire or Sunset and the perpendicular streets so Obama can drive across town unbothered. Both Democratic fundraisers are at homes in the Hancock Park area — James Lassiter's and Melanie Griffith's, with assorted other co-hosts as I reported earlier. The president is spending the night in town, so there will likely be an end-of-the-evening closure round — then in the morning he chats with Jay Leno before returning to LAX for a pre-noon takeoff.
By the way, I've so far eluded any personal entanglement with the Obamajams that so many Angelenos have been caught in. Looks like my streak's about to end. I have to get from Westwood to Southwestern Law School in Koreatown right about the time Obama is traveling the same direction. Rats.
Also: Despite Monday's two celebrity-filled fundraisers, Obama is actually keeping his distance from Hollywood types these days for image reasons, Tina Daunt writes at THR.
