Saturday night's free film screening at the Hammer Museum in Westwood is the 1973 documentary on "the black Woodstock," more properly known as the Wattstax Music Festival. Organized at the Los Angeles Coliseum by Stax Records, the August 20, 1972 event marked the seventh anniversary of the Watts riots. Performers in the film include Richard Pryor, Isaac Hayes, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, Kim Weston, the Staple Singers and the Bar-Kays.

Director Mel Stuart and actor Ted Lange will sit for a Q&A after the 8 p.m. screening.

Add the Hammer: Libros Schmibros, David Kipen's Boyle Heights bookstore and library, will be in residence from Aug 27-Oct. 9, with public readings on Sept. 1 and other dates.
