Trutanich beats the drums for DA race

City Attorney Carmen Trutanich hasn't exactly said that he will be a candidate for district attorney next year, but his consultant is trying to hard to make sure it looks like he's running. A release just sent out notes that Trutanich's exploratory committee has raised $507,000, and claims the endorsements of former mayor Richard Riordan and Sheriff Lee Baca. And of course there's the obligatory "grass roots" draft Carmen movement that all candidates like to claim. "The groundswell of support for a Trutanich candidacy has been extraordinary," consultant John Shallman says in the release.

District Attorney Steve Cooley said in May that he's not running for reelection and he endorsed chief deputy Jackie Lacey. Earlier this month, deputy DA Alan Jackson posted a new video ad for his campaign on YouTube.
