It's not bad out there. I came over Sepulveda Pass about 2 o'clock, and except for what seemed to be a bit of lookie-loo slowdown on both sides approaching the Mulholland bridge, the 405 freeway was flowing much easier than it normally would on a Friday afternoon. Again, it appears as if the heavy traffic on Wednesday night was people getting out of Dodge early. There's now a media camp at the edge of the Skirball Drive bridge, with satellite trucks lined up for live shots of tonight's shutdown. Camp Carmageddon?
KCET re-airs the half-hour special I narrate, "Coundown to Carmageddon," tonight at 9:30. We talk to 405 project manager Mike Barbour and show you what's going to happen this weekend — and explain why officials are activating the city's emergency command center and taking it all so seriously.
