Well look at that: Republican may be in the 36th CD runoff

With 100 percent of precincts counted, conservative businessman Craig Huey looks to have edged his way into the runoff with Janice Hahn while Debra Bowen and Marcy Winograd peeled off the other Democratic votes. There could be 9,000 or so provisional and late ballots out, so Huey may yet slip into third place. But if he hangs in there, the new-fangled primary rules will turn out just the way it would have under the old way: one Dem and one Rep in the general, with tons of national money flooding in. From the Registrar-Recorder:

JANICE HAHN DEM 13,137 24.66
CRAIG HUEY REP 11,648 21.87
DEBRA BOWEN DEM 11,442 21.48
MARCY WINOGRAD DEM 5,066 9.51

Also with 100% of precincts counted, but with late and provisional ballots outstanding, It looks as if Bennett Kayser — the UTLA guy — won the school board seat (but it's close with Luis Sanchez, the mayor's guy.) Scott Svonkin appears to have won the college board seat. Way over a majority of those votes were cast by mail this time.
