James Beard honors for Kuh, Gold

In this year's media categories of the James Beard Foundation awards, Patric Kuh of Los Angeles magazine won the Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Review Award. Jonathan Gold of LA Weekly got the M.F.K. Fisher Distinguished Writing Award for a piece called "A Movable Beast." Dan Koeppel won best food related feature for a story in Saveur called "Fruit of the Future."

Plus: LA Weekly food writer Amy Scattergood and former Spago and Campanile pastry chef Kim Boyce won a cookbook award for “Good to the Grain: Baking with Whole-Grain Flours.” Amanda Hesser won for the "The Essential New York Times Cook Book," and former L.A. Times staff writer Rick Bragg shared a prize for food culture and travel for "The Southerner's Guide to Oysters" in Gun and Garden. The restaurant awards are announced Monday.
