DA Cooley finally says it: won't run again

District Attorney Steve Cooley says this term, his fourth, will be his last. After months of official coyness, he endorsed his chief deputy, Jacquelyn Lacey, to become the county's first female and African American DA. "When I complete this term, I will be 65 1/2 years old,” Cooley said in a phone interview with the L.A. Times. “I will have 39 years and 10 months of public service. There’s a sense of wanting to leave on top.” LAT, LA Weekly
