los-angeles-cover-511.jpgIn addition to the Austin Beutner story we told you about a couple of weeks ago, the May issue of Los Angeles is focusing on Chinese restaurants — including a guide to the San Gabriel Valley — and has a nice piece by Steve Oney on music mogul Herb Alpert. The fashion feature, with models on roller skates, was shot at the Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale. The travel feature this month is Seattle.

miller-mccune-511.jpgMore magazine notes: In the new Miller-McCune, Sheriff Lee Baca tells Vince Beiser about his program to offer classes to every one of the 160,000 inmates who pass through L.A. County lockups each year. "Ninety percent of jail inmates will get out. They have to be better prepared while they’re being incarcerated to think differently about the free world and their choices," Baca says.
