Mammoth Mountain about to hit record for snow

mammoth-storm-dec2010.jpgIn all the decades that Mammoth Mountain has been a destination for SoCal skiers, this looks to be the winter with the most snowfall. At least since they began keeping records in 1969, says outdoors blogger Pete Thomas. "With snow falling again Wednesday...and more expected over the next few days, the question is no longer whether the Eastern [Sierra] Resort will realize a record snowfall level for a single season, but when that will occur," Thomas writes. The record is 578 inches.

Also from Thomas: Big sightings of northbound gray whales this week.
