Krenwinkel, now 64, is the longest-serving female prisoner in the California prison system — a distinction she gained when fellow Charles Manson follower Susan Atkins died in 2009. Known in the group as "Katie," Krenwinkel took part in the August 1969 Manson Family killings at the Benedict Canyon home of actress Sharon Tate and, the next night, at the Los Feliz home of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Krenwinkel is reportedly the participant who left a fork in the abdomen of Mr. LaBianca and wrote "DEATH TO PIGS" in blood on the wall, and "HeaLter SkeLTter" on the refrigerator. The killers then hitchhiked home through the Valley to the Spahn Ranch in Chatsworth, while Manson — who had been at the LaBianca home — drove with some followers to Sylmar for milk shakes at Denny's.
Krenwinkel will be eligible to try for parole again in seven years.
